CASIO PHONEMATE UNVEILS INDUSTRY'S FIRST 'NO COMPROMISE' CORDLESS COMBO PHONE/ANSWERING MACHINE, 900 MHz DSS UNIT SHOWCASES MESSAGE MANAGEMENT!

TC-950 with Digital Answering Machine Delivers Superior Range, Security and Clarity For Maximum Mobility

TORRANCE, Calif. (November 1, 1997) - "Don't leave home without it" could soon be your mantra as you stroll about the neighborhood with cordless phone in hand, as Casio PhoneMate today introduced the TC-950 -- the first "no compromise" 900 MHz cordless combination telephone/answering device (TAD). The next-generation TC-950 900 MHz Digital Spread Spectrum (DSS) cordless telephone is integrated with an all-digital answering machine, and advances Casio PhoneMate's leadership in message management. Aimed at the home and the small office, the TC-950 is the flagship in a new family of products incorporating DSS cordless technology, delivering the longest range, best clarity, and highest security on the market.

The TC-950 provides high-powered, high-frequency communications between handset and base unit of up to 4,000 feet under optimum conditions, roughly seven times the range of conventional 25-channel cordless phones and four times the range of 900 MHz Analog and 900 MHz Digital phones.

"The TC-950 truly is a 'no compromise' cordless combo," said Stephen Knuth, president, Casio PhoneMate. "Being able to access and manage incoming messages from any room in the house or office -- or even down the street - without interruptions or annoying cross-talk means that you don't need to give up range to gain convenience and flexibility.

"With its unsurpassed clarity and power, the TC-950 redefines the cordless phone in the home and the home office alike," Knuth said. "It sounds like a corded phone, but it doesn't tie you down." Making short work of message management, the TC-950 enables you to control and instantly access the all-digital answering machine from the handset - or from any touch-tone phone -- via a voice menu, and easily skip, repeat, save and erase messages.

Message management extends to intelligent features within the TC-950, including non-volatile memory message protection - which ensures that a power outage won't take valuable messages with it -- and a new exclusive, patented Message File, for preserving important or especially lengthy messages.

Ideal in situations where the answering machine is shared, the Message File storage feature permits a specific message to be forwarded to a holding area and removed from the message queue, thereby enabling you and other members of your household or business to maintain separate message storage areas. Filed messages may be played independently of the normal message queue.

Complementing the advanced 900 MHz DSS technology, the TC-950 incorporates Rockwell's "intelligent power management" chip, which regulates battery life according to distance from the base unit while preserving the clarity of telephone communications. In addition, Casio PhoneMate's SecureCom~u relies on sophisticated voice scrambling technology to make eavesdropping virtually impossible.

"This collaborative effort by two market leaders has resulted in a superior solution for consumers, with tangible benefits in areas that matter most in personal and business communications," said Scott Bibaud, Product Manager, Wireless Communications Division, Rockwell Semiconductor Systems.

"Rockwell's 900 MHz digital spread spectrum technology, integrated with next- generation Casio PhoneMate cordless offerings like the TC-950, gives consumers the features they ask for, including range, clarity and security."

As a cordless phone, the TC-950 provides for an array of convenience options, such as a base speakerphone - which enables you to converse without holding the handset -- two-way page, intercom/line conferencing, and 20-number auto-dial.

As an answering machine, the unit features 14 minutes of enhanced-quality all-digital recording, remote access with voice menu, voice time/day stamp, separate all and new message playback, fast and slow playback speeds, selective save and erase, two-way page/intercom, two separate greetings with distinctive ring activation, a two-digit message counter, and a compact, cellular phone-like handset. The TC-950 is expected to be available for $229 at general retail and specialty consumer electronics stores beginning in mid-October.

Connecting with Rockwell Among the various 900 MHz technologies, Casio PhoneMate's Rockwell- based DSS offers superior performance advantages. The high-frequency properties of 900 MHz support a high-powered digital signal that enhances clarity better than competing cordless technologies. Channel selection is "smart" and occurs automatically during a conversation. Because it does, you're spared irritating interference and the bother of pressing a channel button, as required with most non-DSS 900 MHz phones.

Rockwell's encoding of the digital signal also ensures the highest level of security, preventing any cross-talk or eavesdropping. Casio PhoneMate's SecureCom uses 16 million random security codes, to protect communication between handset and base. The code changes each time the handset is placed in the cradle.

As part of the "Connect with Rockwell" program, Casio PhoneMate worked closely with Rockwell to implement the intelligent power management capability, Rockwell's proprietary method of preserving cordless battery life to ensure clear communications at long range. This breakthrough effectively compensates for the power-consumptive nature of DSS technology.

In the TC-950, the transmitting power between the handset and base unit automatically adjusts between one, ten and 100 milliamps, depending on the distance between them; power is minimized when the units are relatively near to one another, and boosted as the two are separated and require greater signal strength to maintain clear communications.
