The Data Warehouse Model is constructed directly from the same-industry Enterprise Model, which is the data blueprint describing the organization's integrated information requirements. Each subject area in the Enterprise Model has a corresponding Data Warehouse Model component.

By extending the principles and design of the Data Warehouse Model, any of the Subject Area Models may serve as the basis to develop Decision Support System models for that associated subject area.

The Data Warehouse Model enables organizations to immediately address their integrated information requirements in an enterprise-wide context without extensive enterprise modeling.
